Pearson lists Number Matrix at Levels D–G. Like a visual pattern matrix, a number grid has a missing entry. The student identifies a relationship across a row, down a column, or both and applies it to the blank.

Original learning matrix

2 5 7
4 3 ?

Answer: 7. In each row, the first two values add to the third: 2+5=7 and 4+3=7. This is one simple learning illustration, not a publisher item.

How to solve

  1. Try a simple row rule on the complete row.
  2. Apply exactly that rule to the incomplete row.
  3. If the grid has multiple complete rows or columns, verify the rule there too.
  4. Reject an answer that fits only one cell but breaks another relationship.
