A series asks which picture continues a visual sequence. At Level A, the rule can be a short repeating group rather than a long mathematical pattern. Pearson places this item family at OLSAT 8 Levels A in its scope chart. That chart describes available item types, not a guarantee about one student’s form.
How to solve picture series questions
Point to each picture in order and say the repeating group aloud. Check whether the group restarts at the same place each time.
Original questions with visual answers
Original illustrated example · Level A Answer B: Moon The pictures alternate sun, moon. A moon follows the last sun. Original illustrated example · Level A Answer A: Cup The repeating group is cup, plate, plate. A cup starts the next group.Look at the picture pattern. Which picture comes next?

What can go wrong?
Looking only at the last two pictures can miss a three-picture group. After checking an answer, ask the student to describe why each distractor does not follow the rule. This makes the lesson about reasoning rather than memorizing a picture.
Practice this skill at the right level
Try a few illustrated examples before a mixed session. Younger students may need an adult to read directions aloud. The free OLSAT practice test includes visual items with illustrated choices and answer explanations. Find the typical grade-to-level match, then confirm the actual level with the school.
