Quantitative reasoning asks students to recognize number relationships, not only carry out familiar arithmetic. Pearson’s scope chart lists Number Series, Numeric Inference, and Number Matrix at Levels D–G, while arithmetic reasoning appears across Levels A–G.
- Number series — identify a repeated change.
- Numeric inference — find a rule that connects number statements.
- Number matrix — apply a row or column rule in a number grid.
A useful check
Test a proposed rule at every visible step. If a sequence seems to add two, confirm each difference; if a matrix seems to multiply, confirm the complete row before filling the blank. Our examples illustrate these habits and are not official items.
